As a locally and family-owned shop, we want your time on the water to be the highlight of your trip.

1. Connect with Us! — Secure your gear in advance online or shoot us a text, or just swing by our Apgar Village Yurt. Walk-ins are always welcome!

2. Get the Goods — Pick up a high-quality spinning rod and lures at the Yurt. Our team will point you toward the best local honey holes.

3. Enjoy the Park — Explore the crystal-clear waters of Glacier. Remember, no state fishing license is needed inside the park—just keep your park pass handy!

4. Wrap Up — Bring your equipment back to the Yurt during business hours. We'd love to hear about your catch!

Carry your bear spray! Rent some here.

No Live Bait, No Lead: Only artificial lures are permitted; 2–3 are included with every rental. Lost Gear Fees: $5 per lost lure; $20 for a lost lure case.

If you don't know, let it go. If you aren't 100% sure what the fish is, release it. Bull Trout are federally protected—we always recommend that customers release any fish they cannot 100% identify. Bullies look like Lake Trout or Brook Trout. FYI, Lower McDonald Creek (from Quarter Circle Bridge to Lake McDonald) is Catch & Release only.

1. Near Apgar & Lake McDonald

  • [E] Lake McDonald — Roadside. Perfect for families and evening casts. Best fished by boat or at pull-offs along GTSR.
  • [E] Lower McDonald Creek — <0.5 mi. Easily accessible near the Lodge. Quarter Circle Bridge to lake is Catch & Release only.
  • [E] Snyder Creek — 0–1 mi. Small, accessible stream near the Lodge. Great for practicing short casts.

2. Going-to-the-Sun Road

  • [E/M] Avalanche Lake — 4 mi RT. Stunning alpine lake with Cutthroat Trout. Go early!
  • [M] Hidden Lake — 3–5 mi RT from Logan Pass. Steep but rewarding for Yellowstone Cutthroat.
  • [E] St. Mary Lake — Roadside (east side). Famous for big Lake Trout. Can get extremely windy.

3. North Fork Area (Rugged & Remote)

  • [E] North Fork Flathead River — Roadside access at Polebridge, Ford, Big Creek. Gravel roads required.
  • [E] Bowman Lake — From campground. Deep, cold, beautiful. Best from a pack raft or boat.
  • [H] Quartz Lake — 12 mi loop. For serious hiker/anglers. Excellent native trout, much less crowded.

Yes, but you must be prepared. Always carry bear spray, make noise while walking to your fishing spot, and clean your fish properly. If you need bear spray, you can rent it directly from our shop before you head out!
No! Fish license-free within Glacier National Park boundaries with a valid National Park pass. Our staff can help you understand the boundary lines.
No. Live bait is prohibited within Glacier National Park. All rod rentals include artificial lures that comply with park regulations. No lead can be used in Glacier National Park.
Recommended! You can reserve your gear online ahead of time, shoot us a text to hold a rod. But we love a last-minute idea, so just walk right into our Apgar Village Yurt and we will get you fitted with a reel.
We rent spinning rods - perfect for beginners and experienced anglers alike. Each comes with 2-3 basic lures so you're ready to fish right away.
Lake McDonald is just steps away and is great for catching Lake Trout! If you prefer moving water, Lower McDonald Creek is easily accessible, though please note that the section from Quarter Circle Bridge down to the lake is Catch & Release only.
Lake McDonald is home to native species like Westslope Cutthroat Trout and Mountain Whitefish, as well as non-native species like Lake Trout and Rainbow Trout.
The park encourages the harvest of non-native species (like Lake Trout). However, if you catch a native Bull Trout (which is federally protected), it must be released immediately. Our rule of thumb: If you don't know, let it go.
Snags happen! We charge a small replacement fee of $5 per lost lure, or $20 if the entire lure case is lost.
Yes! While our standard rentals are great for the afternoon, we also offer 24-hour rentals ($20) and multi-day options so you can take your gear up the Going-to-the-Sun Road or into the backcountry.
