Vehicle Reservations FAQ - Glacier Outfitters

FAQs about Vehicle Reservations for Glacier National Park

When planning and researching your trip to Glacier, you will see and hear various terms used to talk about entry requirements. The following terms all mean the same thing:
Entry Reservation Ticket / Ticketed Entry / Entry Ticket / Vehicle Reservation. For simplicity purposes, we will use the term Vehicle Reservation.

In 2023, Vehicle Reservations will be needed for all entrances into Glacier. This includes the West and East entrances of Going to the Sun Road, The North Fork entrance at Polebridge, Two Medicine Valley and Many Glacier Valley.

From May 26th to September 10th, 2023: All vehicles entering Glacier National Park from the West Glacier Entrance and the North Fork Entrance at Polebridge will need a vehicle reservation. Reservations will be required from 6:00am to 3:00pm daily.

From July 1st to September 10th, 2023: All vehicles entering Glacier National Park from the St Mary Entrance or entering the Many Glacier Valley or Two Medicine Valley, will need a vehicle reservation. Reservations will be required from 6:00am to 3:00pm daily.

Each section of the park will require it's own vehicle reservation. Meaning if you want to visit Going to the Sun Road and Many Glacier while on your trip, you will need TWO vehicle reservations, one for the West Glacier or St Mary entrance AND one for Many Glacier. If you want to visit the Two Medicine area or enter the North Fork entrance, those would be two additional vehicle reservations as well.

Vehicle Reservations can be purchased on www.recreation.gov on the following dates/times:

  • February 1st 8:00am MST: Vehicle Reservations for May 26th to June 30th for the West Glacier and North Fork entrances

  • March 1st 8:00am MST: Vehicle Reservations for July 1st to July 31st for the West Glacier, St. Mary, North Fork, Many Glacier and Two Medicine Valley entrances

  • April 1st 8:00am MST: Vehicle Reservations for August 1st to August 31st for West Glacier, St. Mary, North Fork, Many Glacier and Two Medicine Valley entrances

  • May 1st 8:00am MST: Vehicle Reservations for September 1st to September 10th for West Glacier, St. Mary, North Fork, Many Glacier and Two Medicine Valley entrances

  • Tickets will sell out fast each morning. We advise setting up an account on Recreation.gov prior to the release and being prepared and online to reserve 10 minutes before the drop at 8 am MST.

A small portion of tickets will also be available on a rolling basis at 8am the day before you want to enter the park.

Don’t Stress too much, there are numerous other ways to enter GNP without a Vehicle Reservations

Reserve a Bike, Kayak, or Paddleboard with us, Glacier Outfitters. These specific rental reservations will serve as your entry ticket for the West Glacier and St Mary entrances--which will give you access to Going to the Sun Road!

Enter the park before 6:00 am or after 3:00pm each day-no Vehicle Reservations are required outside of these hours.

Reserve other activities, lodging, or camping inside the Park. Having reservations for boat rides, horseback riding, lodging, or campsites within an area will bypass the need for a Vehicle Reservation for that specific area that day. For example, if you book a boat tour in Many Glacier, that will serve as your Many Glacier Vehicle Reservation for that day or if you book a kayak rental with us in Apgar Village, that will serve as your Vehicle Reservation for the Going to the Sun Road corridor, which is the West Glacier and St Mary entrances.

Vehicle Reservations for Going to the Sun Road corridor (West Glacier and St Mary) are sold in 3-day increments.

Vehicle Reservations for the North Fork, Many Glacier and Two Medicine Valley are all sold as single day reservations.

Before arriving at Glacier, download, print or screenshot your Vehicle Reservation or your activity/lodging confirmation.

In addition to a vehicle reservation, each vehicle entering the park is required to have an entrance pass for any entry point into the park. These passes could include any one of the following: a $35 vehicle pass, good for seven days; a valid Interagency Annual/Lifetime Pass; or a Glacier National Park Annual Pass. At the entry gate you will need to show your entrance pass, Photo I.D, and your Vehicle Reservation/Activity or Lodging Confirmation in order to enter Glacier National Park.
